A properly completed entry form is required for all submissions. Incomplete submissions will result in the disqualification of that entry from the nominating process and will not be considered for Chair Recommendations.
The MPSE will confer a Golden Reel Award on the crew demonstrating exemplary music editing for Live-Action or Animated feature films, English Language or Foreign Language in a single category designated as Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing - Feature Motion Picture - Musical. A musical consists of not fewer than five songs (as defined below) either used as voiceovers and/or visually performed. Qualified submission can also be instrumental songs as sync-source. Each of these songs must be substantively rendered, clearly audible, and intelligible, and must further the storyline of the motion picture.
A ‘song’ as defined for the MPSE’s purpose is a song with vocals that plays as visual sync-source or plays as song-score, or an instrumental song as sync-source.
A minimum of thirty (30) minutes of newly composed score music must have been written specifically for the submission.
Cue sheets must be supplied with each submission.
Feature films must have been released commercially during the calendar year of consideration and must have run for at least one week in a public theater in the United States. Festivals and private screenings neither qualify nor prevent qualification.
MPSE Golden Reel Statue Trophies shall be presented to the following positions on the winning production: Supervising Music Editors and Music Editors.
All nominated editors must be part of the primary sound editing crew, not just the temp mix or mix changes.
