Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing - Feature Motion Picture - Underscore

A properly completed entry form is required for all submissions. Incomplete submissions will result in the disqualification of that entry from the nominating process and will not be considered for Chair Recommendations.

AWARD CATEGORY DEFINITION AND QUALIFICATIONS -

The MPSE will confer a Golden Reel Award on the crew demonstrating exemplary music editing in a Live-Action or Animated feature film, English Language or Foreign Language, in a single category designated as Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing - Feature Motion Picture -  Underscore. Music editing for this category refers specifically to working with newly composed original instrumental music as score and/or previously recorded music as source and/or score.

A minimum of thirty (30) minutes of newly composed score music must have been written specifically for the submission.

Cue sheets must be supplied with each submission

PERIOD OF ELIGIBILITY -

Feature films must have been released commercially during the calendar year of consideration and must have run for at least one week in a public theater in the United States. Festivals and private screenings neither qualify nor prevent qualification.

TROPHIES AWARDED -

MPSE Golden Reel Statue Trophies shall be presented to the following positions on the winning production: Supervising Music Editors, Music Editors and Scoring Editors.

CREW SIZE -

All nominated editors must be part of the primary sound editing crew, not just the temp mix or mix changes.

NOMINATING PROCESS
  1. Music entry forms are available for music editors to submit their film for consideration. The completed forms will be returned to the Music Selection Committee.

  2. Any film that does not submit a complete application for submission, including an explanation of the music editors’ work, will not be considered for nomination.

  3. The Active MPSE membership will determine, by ballot, the number of nominations congruent with the number of submissions as shown in General Rule #4.

  4. Panel chairs will have the ability to recommend promoting qualified submissions to nomination based upon screenings and review of documentation provided as Chair Recommendations as outlined in General Rule #9.

  5. Supervisors and their crews will not be eliminated due to more than one feature nomination.

  6. If there are less than three (3) submissions in a single year in either category; Feature Motion Picture - Music Score or Feature Motion Picture - Musical, they will be combined into a single category, Feature Motion Picture - Music.
