Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing - Feature Documentary

A properly completed entry form is required for all submissions. Incomplete submissions will result in the disqualification of that entry from the nominating process and will not be considered for Chair Recommendations.

SCREENING COPIES

Feature Submissions are not required to send in picture to be considered for nomination.  It is suggested that you send in DVDs (Standard or Blu Ray) if the film has a limited release or is a foreign film that may have not been seen by a large portion of the voting membership.  *Commercial DVDs are acceptable. *Digital options are acceptable such as film links.

The MPSE office does its best to work with all of the distributors and marketing offices to ensure that picture can be acquired for the judges and for the award's show purposes if a film is nominated.

AWARD CATEGORY DEFINITION AND QUALIFICATIONS -

The MPSE will confer a Golden Reel Award on the crew demonstrating exemplary sound editing for documentary feature films in a single category designated as Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing - Feature Documentary. For this category, sound editing is defined as the editing of Sound effects, Foley, Dialogue and ADR. Judging for the award shall consider the quality of all of these disciplines for each eligible film.

Music Editing for Feature Documentary needs to be submitted in the appropriate Feature Motion Picture Music categories (Underscore or Musical).

A Documentary Feature is defined as a theatrically released nonfiction motion picture with an informative, cultural, artistic, historical, social, scientific, biographical or other subject matter. Game Show, Reality and Reality - Competition subject matter are not eligible.

RUNNING TIME REQUIREMENT - 60:00+
PERIOD OF ELIGIBILITY -

Feature films must have been released commercially during the calendar year of consideration and must have run for at least one week in a public theater in the United States. Festivals and private screenings neither qualify nor prevent qualification.

TROPHIES AWARDED -

MPSE Golden Reel Statue Trophies shall be presented to the following positions on the winning production: Supervising Sound Editors, Sound Designers, Supervising Dialogue Editors, Supervising ADR Editors, Dialogue Editors, ADR Editors, Sound Effects Editors, Foley Editors, Foley Artists and Sound Editors

CREW SIZE -

All nominated editors must be part of the primary sound editing crew, not just the temp mix or mix changes.

NOMINATION PROCESS
  1. The nominating ballot for Best Sound Editing in a Documentary Feature Film will be sent to the Active MPSE Members along with the list of qualifying films for the year.

  2. The Active MPSE membership will determine, by ballot, the number of nominations congruent with the number of submissions as shown in General Rule #4.

  3. Panel chairs will have the ability to recommend promoting qualified submissions to nomination based upon screenings and review of documentation provided as Chair Recommendations as outlined in General Rule #9.

  1. Supervisors and their crews will not be eliminated due to more than one feature nomination.
