Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing - Feature Motion Picture - Underscore

A properly completed entry form is required for all submissions. Incomplete submissions will result in the disqualification of that entry from the nominating process and will not be considered for Chair Recommendations.

Feature Submissions are not required to send in picture to be considered for nomination.  It is suggested that you send in DVDs (Standard or Blu Ray) if the film has a limited release or is a foreign film that may have not been seen by a large portion of the voting membership.  *Commercial DVDs are acceptable. *Digital options are acceptable such as film links.

The MPSE office does its best to work with all of the distributors and marketing offices to ensure that picture can be acquired for the judges and for the award's show purposes if a film is nominated.

The MPSE will confer a Golden Reel Award on the crew demonstrating exemplary music editing in a Live-Action or Animated feature film, English Language or Foreign Language, in a single category designated as Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing - Feature Motion Picture -  Underscore. Music editing for this category refers specifically to working with newly composed original instrumental music as score and/or previously recorded music as source and/or score

Feature films must have been released commercially during the calendar year of consideration and must have run for at least one week in a public theater in the United States. Festivals and private screenings neither qualify nor prevent qualification.

MPSE Golden Reel Statue Trophies shall be presented to the following positions on the winning production: Supervising Music Editors, Music Editors and Scoring Editors.

All nominated editors must be part of the primary sound editing crew, not just the temp mix or mix changes.

  1. Music entry forms are available for music editors to submit their film for consideration. The completed forms will be returned to the Music Selection Committee.
  2. Any film that does not submit a complete application for submission, including an explanation of the music editors’ work, will not be considered for nomination.
  3. The Active MPSE membership will determine, by ballot, the number of nominations congruent with the number of submissions as shown in General Rule #4.
  4. Panel chairs will have the ability to recommend promoting qualified submissions to nomination based upon screenings and review of documentation provided as Chair Recommendations as outlined in General Rule #9.
  5. Supervisors and their crews will not be eliminated due to more than one feature nomination.
  6. If there are less than three (3) submissions in a single year in either category; Feature Motion Picture - Music Score or Feature Motion Picture - Musical, they will be combined into a single category, Feature Motion Picture - Music.
